Sydenham - The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) will lower the water level of Sydenham Lake gradually by about 12 inches starting Sept. 15 and will continue the draw down throughout September.
"This is an annual event," explains CRCA Watershed Management Coordinator Mara Shaw. "Sydenham Lake plays an important role in minimizing spring flooding downstream."
The lake is lowered every fall to create storage capacity to handle snow melt and spring rains. Summer levels are maintained at a higher level to accommodate boating and other recreational uses of the lake.
"The CRCA provides notice of fall draw down every year to alert property owners and lake users of the water level changes," says Ms. Shaw. "Some people need to bring in boats or docks before the water level falls."
