Sydenham Lake water level will drop six inches

Sydenham - The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) will lower the water level of Sydenham Lake gradually by about six inches starting Oct. 23 and will continue the draw down throughout October.

"This is an annual event," explains CRCA Watershed Management Coordinator Mara Shaw. "Sydenham Lake plays an important role in minimizing spring flooding downstream."

The lake is lowered every fall to create storage capacity to handle snow melt and spring rains. Summer levels are maintained at a higher level to accommodate boating and other recreational uses of the lake.

"The CRCA is sending this notice at the request of the shoreline property owners and lake users who asked for any notice of draw down," says Ms. Shaw.
