Open house will discuss floodplain restoration

Kingston - The City of Kingston and the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority( CRCA) have organized an open house to discuss floodplain restoration proposed for Highgate Creek where it traverses John Grass Creek Park north of Hillview Road.

The open house will be held on May 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Collins Bay Public School at 4075 Bath Road.

This project was initiated at the request of residents who raised concerns about the perceived loss of floodplain due to sediment being carried down HIghgate Creek. The project's intent is to remove some of the sediment and simultaneously enhance creekbed habitat.

City engineering staff and CRCA staff will explain the project and associated environmental assessment. Public input is invited on the field work proposed for late summer 2009.
