The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority is issuing a flood advisory for the eastern potion of its jurisdiction between Gananoque and Brockville.
Temperatures are fluctuating around freezing and rainfall is heavy at times. Flooding may occur throughout the day and possibly into Thursday, depending upon local weather conditions. Between 15 and 25 mm of rain has already fallen. Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the Brockville area predicting another 15 to 25 mm mm of rainfall through the afternoon.
Melting snow combined with rain on frozen ground have produced conditions that may cause localized ponding in low-lying areas. There may also be a risk of localized flooding in waterways, particularly near culverts.
Residents are advised to avoid water bodies, including streams, storm water management ponds, reservoirs and lakes. Ice is thin, and water depth and flow rates may be higher than are visible from the surface. The ice on inland lakes is unstable and ice fishers should take note.
With temperatures predicted to drop below freezing, hazardous conditions will include icy roadways.
