Kingston - Users of the Cataraqui Trail in South Elmsley Township are advised to
exercise caution at a construction site where a culvert is to be restored and reset in
place.
The site is just east of the Golf Club Road. The work involves lifting the culvert,
cleaning it, resetting it then resurfacing the trail on either side of the excavation. This is
necessitated by the actions of beavers that cause flooding and washouts in this area.
The work will begin within the next few weeks and should take no more than two days to complete.
Trail users are advised to heed all warnings on signage at the site.
The work will cost about $6,000 and is partially covered by a grant from the Trans Canada Trail, a nonprofit that raises funds for a recreational trail across Canada. The 104 km Cataraqui Trail is owned by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority and managed by a volunteer board of directors.
The cost of work not covered by the grant will be split between the CRCA and the Leeds and Grenville Snowmobile Club.
