Ducks Unlimited Canada boosts CRCA campaign

Kingston - Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) has announced a $40,000 donation to The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority's (CRCA) campaign to raise $1 million to buy the ecologically-sensitive Bayview Wetland.

"Thanks to this generous donation from DUC, we have raised more than three-quarters of the total, about $750,000, required to complete the purchase," says CRCA General Manager Steve Knechtel.

Ducks Unlimited Canada is a private, not-for-profit conservation organization that conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl.

Late last week the Ontario Greenlands Program contributed $450,000 to the campaign. Loyalist Township has donated another $150,000. Meanwhile the Cataraqui Conservation Foundation, the CRCA's fund-raising arm, has raised more than $100,000 pushing the total past the $750,000 mark.

Many individual donors have responded to the Cataraqui Conservation Foundation's appeal for funds, including one conservationist who turned over two boxes of pennies containing some 3,000 coins.

"We still need to raise $250,000 so I'm asking everyone with an interest in conservation to help us push this campaign over the top," says Mr. Knechtel.

To donate, mail your cheque to the Cataraqui Conservation Foundation, 1641 Perth Road, P.O. Box 160, Glenburnie, Ontario, K0H 1S0, today.
